Sales Intern (Fall 2023 - Lexington, KY)

Our Sales Internship Program is a 12-week program intended to immerse you into the transportation & logistics industry, give you real business experience, and aid in developing skills that will prepare you for your future career – hopefully at Longship.

As a Sales Intern, you will participate in a combination of responsibilities including inside sales, account management, supply chain planning, and operational activities to meet the shipping needs of our customers.

The ideal Sales Intern is highly motivated, goal oriented, and a strong communicator who succeeds in a fast-paced environment. They should set and maintain high standards of customer service, reliability, and punctuality.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Learn, perform, and refine the craft of selling in the logistics industry
  • Aid in facilitating the movement of customer freight – entering loads from customer tenders, scheduling/rescheduling appointments, monitoring daily pick-ups/deliveries, etc.
  • Discover how to negotiate and confirm rates
  • Develop strong relationships with customers and carriers through research, cold calling, and lead generation

 

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate education pursuing a Bachelor’s degree; senior-level standing preferred
  • Strong work ethic and sales-driven
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Aptitude and appreciate for selling in a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled at working collaboratively and accomplishing team goals

 

Schedule:
  • A minimum of three, 4–6-hour shifts scheduled Monday – Friday
  • Flexible scheduling: Longship is willing to work with successful candidates’ coursework schedule.

Account Executive (Lexington, KY)

Our Account Executives are highly motivated, goal oriented and strong communicators who succeed in a fast-paced environment. They oversee customer shipments from pickup to on-time delivery, assuring an efficient process. Every time.

Responsibilities:
  • Prospect and develop strong professional relationships—via phone and e-mails — to sell freight transportation brokerage services
  • Provide full cycle customer service from contract to delivery

  • Contact carriers/trucking companies to find the most efficient shipping option, provide order tracking and delivery confirmation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain the flow of business information with a sense of urgency
  • Contacting customers daily to not only generate revenue but maintain the relationship
  • Responsible for identifying sales opportunities and closing sales

Accounting Coordinator (Lexington, KY)

The ideal Accounting Coordinator will be ethical, thorough, and detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Working with other members of the accounting department to compile, analyze, and report financial data.
  • Prepare and input journal or ledger entries.
  • Act as point of contact between the different parts of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and internal & external parties, such as employees, vendors, and clients
  • Using bookkeeping software and entering information into company files or databases, ensuring that all financial records are complete and accurate.
  • Ensuring that company bills are paid, and debts are collected.
  • Implementing and enforcing financial and inventory controls
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field required
  • Experience in paperwork processing and data entry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, time management, problem-solving, and math skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, email, and a multi-line phone system
  • High level of accountability, accuracy, and efficiency, especially when multitasking.
  • Ability to work in a team setting while producing independent results

The ideal Night Dispatcher candidate will maintain regular and punctual attendance, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external parties, and must have the ability to work independently as well as in team setting.

  • Answer incoming calls as they arrive on the Night Dispatch que
  • Perform check calls as directed by Longship Account Executives
  • Provide timely and efficient updates to Account Executives as they become available
  • Use effective listening skills to collect required information and/or to identify potential conflicts
  • Practice professional phone etiquette; provide excellent customer service to customers and carriers
  • Troubleshoot problem loads and resolve issues pertaining to delays, accidents, pickup/delivery numbers, and paperwork questions
  • Issue advances to carriers pertaining to unloading charges and fuel advances
  • Maintain communication with carrier while loads are in transit
  • Other duties as required or assigned

  • Dispatching experience (preferred not required)
